Grumble...

I got accidentally punched in the head this morning on the T (For non-Bostonians or those who have never visited, the T is the subway).  This guy decided he didn't need to hold on to anything and then when he (inevitably) started to fall, he flailed his arms around and punched me in the head.  Oh, and did I mention that he happened to be holding a book in that same hand?  At least it was a paperback.

Anyway, the whole event left me cranky for the rest of the day.  I have made every effort to feel better and not be cranky, but for some reason it just set me in a bad mood and I have found it utterly impossible to get out of it.  Maybe it's because just a couple days ago I had another lovely experience on the T where some guy shifted his foot in such a way that he kicked the top of my toenail, which bent back in a place where no toenail is meant to bend and hurt like hell.  I think the T is against me this week.  It's one of those times where I wish I had a car here just for a TINY break from the world of public transportation.  It doesn't help that although I've been watching for something that could improve my day, it's just been one of those average days so there's really been nothing around to cheer me up.

I'll be going to "bar review" (law school joke, it's a bunch of law students gathering at a different bar every other Thursday) this evening after work, so that should be fun.  Hopefully the fun will improve my mood since nothing else today has.

Other than getting punched in the head, nothing much going on, just going in to work and going home.  I still enjoy my internship, so that's good.  Oh, and I finished my re-read of all the Harry Potter books and am now devouring all the fiction I can get my hands on before the summer is over and I have to go back to reading for class.

Oh, and I'm an alternate LF (the teacher/mentor thing I discussed previously) which is alright, at least it's not an outright rejection. And I've heard that it's pretty common for an alternate to get a full offer because people's situation changes or they transfer schools or they realize they don't have time for it or whatever so...we'll see.

Off to continue trying to drag myself out of the funk.  Until next time.

If life were a romantic comedy, that guy who hit you upside the head with the book would turn out to be your true love. Or at least the guy who introduces you to your true love.
As far as reading and cheering yourself up, try some Terry Pratchett. Or David Sedaris. Or, and this could really help, watch Enchanted if you haven't already. I never thought I'd see Disney spoof itself, but it did.
And remember, as the Stepmother in Ever After said "We must never feel sorry for ourselves. Because things could always get so much worse." ;)

lol, that really made me laugh. You're right, if life were a romantic comedy, getting hit in the head with a book would play a key role in some way. I suppose I can now smile about the experience, thanks.

Right now I'm reading the Stephanie Meyer books. The ones about vampires. I've heard good things about David Sedaris though. Thanks for the recommendations...my book list grows by the minute, I'm always looking for more to add. It seems my ultimate goal is to have a list so long that I'll probably die of old age before I can possibly read everything.

Anyway, as a general update, bar review was enjoyable, and now I'm home and ready to curl up with my cat and get a good night's sleep to deal with the last day of this week. And tomorrow is a new day. Here's hoping tomorrow's book isn't a hardcover. =P

Oh man, the T in summer is the worst. All I can say is try to ride sometime right after a Sox game, you will relish only being hit in the head with a paperback lol. Wear a crash helmet and sneakers then start talking to yourself about porn. Everyone will steer clear of you after that ;)

I just read a cute book last week Pack Up the Moon. Not a ground breaking novel or anything heavy like vampires but a really easy beach read. Hope you get your butt to the beach too, that is a cheerful thought all by itself :)

Oh yeah. Been there, done that. That's why I like leaving work at 4:30 because I get on at Government Center going towards Kenmore. If I leave work before everyone else does then they haven't made it to the station before I'm on my way home. But sometimes I get caught up in something and I end up leaving at 5. Somehow that always happens on a Sox game night.

Thanks for the book recommendation!

Oh wait, you said right after. Hmm, I haven't been there. But I'll bet it's a lot like everyone heading home after watching the fireworks, which I did go to. I sat on the Cambridge side of the river though, with all the sane people who didn't want to be part of the half a million people in the main area.

What kind of vampires? Good guy vampires like Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series or the Christine Feehan series (in which the good guys are called Carpathians)? Both series border on soft-core vampire porn, but Kenyon is a better writer. Tanya Huff's Bloodlines series is fun - vampire detective novels. The vampire is the bastard son of Henry VIII. I like my vampires sophisticated, seductive and suave; not those John Carpenter lowlifes. Although I do prefer Spike to Angel.....

Yikes. I just looked up the Stephanie Meyer books at the library - minimum of 146 holds on 14 copies, one of the books had 170 holds on it. Are the books worth buying, or should I just get in line?

I'd definitely say they're worth buying. If you're hesitant, just buy the first one and go from there. That's what I did. Then I finished it on the T just before a stop where I knew there was a Barnes and Noble. I got off the train at that stop so I could go get the second and third ones without going through withdrawals.

As for what kind of vampires, they're definitely good ones, but the ones the main character is associating with are kind of a rare breed, I guess. The books are geared towards teens though so there's no soft core porn element. But yes, very good, and very quick reads too, even though they're each about 500 pages or so.
